Most people come to therapy with a mix of practical questions and harder-to-name hesitations. Both are worth addressing. Here are the ones that come up most often.

Getting started

The easiest way is to use the contact form on this site or call 916-345-4189. I offer a free 15-minute consultation so we can figure out whether it makes sense to work together before you commit to anything.

The first session is mostly about getting oriented. I'll ask about what brings you in, a bit of background, and what you're hoping to get out of the work. You'll get a sense of how I operate, and we'll both get a read on whether the fit feels right.

You don't need to have things figured out before you come in. Most people don't.

The short answer: talk to me. The free consultation exists for exactly this reason. Read the site, get a sense of how I describe my work, and if it sounds like what you're looking for, reach out. You'll know pretty quickly whether the fit is there.

The most important factors are whether you feel understood, whether the approach makes sense to you, and whether you trust the person. Those things are hard to assess from a website alone.

The practical stuff

Individual sessions are $200 for 50 minutes. Couples sessions are $250. EMDR sessions run longer and are priced accordingly. Full details are on the rates page.

I don't bill insurance directly, but I can provide superbills and monthly statements that may allow you to get out-of-network reimbursement through your plan, FSA, or employer program. A lot of people are surprised by what their insurance covers. See the rates page for more detail.

Yes. I'm licensed to see clients throughout California via telehealth. Sessions are conducted through a HIPAA-compliant video platform. Online sessions work well for most people and run exactly the same as in-person.

How therapy works

Most people start with weekly sessions. That frequency builds momentum and gives the work somewhere to go. Over time, as things stabilize, sessions often shift to every other week or monthly. We figure that out together based on what's actually useful.

It depends on what you're working on. Some people come in for a focused stretch of 10 to 15 sessions around a specific issue. Others find longer-term work more useful. There's no standard answer, and the decision is yours. We'll talk about it as we go.

Yes. Everything discussed in sessions is confidential. There are a small number of legal exceptions, including situations involving risk of harm to yourself or others, or reports of child abuse. Outside of those, nothing leaves the room without your consent.

The Integrity Reset is a separate, non-clinical program for men who have broken trust in a relationship and want to do focused accountability work. It's not therapy, doesn't involve diagnosis or treatment, and doesn't establish a therapist-client relationship. See the Integrity Reset page for more detail.
